THE TRUE STORY BEHIND THE MYTH of “AICHA KANDICHA”

Behind every myth is a moral, do you know it?

In Moroccan folklore :

AICHA KENDICHA

is remembered for scaring children. It is sometimes said that it is a Djinn woman with camel feet who lives in abandoned places and who goes out at night to cut off men who pass alone. She attracts them to her and inhabits them to the point where they go mad to death.

Our ancestors often tried to explain the reality behind  the myth. The most probable explanation is that AICHA was a 16th century countess from El Jadida.

She was a resistance fighter known  for  her strength, cunning and exceptional beauty and fought against the Potuguese colonization in MOROCCO Indeed it appeared to the invaders and used its beauty to lure them to the beaches before they were killed by Moroccan soldiers.

THE TRUTH:

Contrary to urban legends,  AICHA was not a demon, witch or monster. She was an activist, a resistance fighter who fought for her country and embodied strength and intelligence.

Instead of honoring her memory and making her story  a source of inspiration for little girls, history has preferred to dirty and trample her.
